Hello from Harris Beach!

I was feeling a little blue this week knowing Alex was leaving for Baghdad so Thursday John said "let's head to the coast for the weekend."  We threw a few things together, hooked up the pop-up for its maiden voyage (well, maiden with us), and headed to Brookings...with no reservations.

The stars were aligned and we got lucky - a nice spot at Harris Beach State Park - one of our favorite spots.  Weather is a little chilly, but nice to go for walks and just appreciate each other and our life.  Fortunately Starbucks is only a mile or so away, it helps me appreciate my life a little more clearly!!

So, Alex left today, and while I'm feeling like an anxious mother, I have a calm about me.  I did ask him to send me little snippets I could post on here so you can read a little of his journey in his words, not mine.  Thank you for keeping him in your prayers...you can never have too many!

2 - 0

I hope it's not bad luck to post WAHOOOO's for our second win of the season!  John and I play on a co-ed softball team called Beer Nuts.  Coached by our good friends Matt & Kelle Hill; we have the best time!  Anyway, we didn't do well pre-season (0-4), but we've done well so far in regular season.  Great group of people; we're making more friends; photos to follow!!

Couple New Things

Friday evening at Midnight Madness, I actually got the chance to sit and play!  Here are a couple of the projects that I have decided to make classes out of:

IMG_4645

I actually started this card about 6 weeks ago as thank you cards for my birthday; I got stuck and put it aside till Friday.  It's actually a tag card.

IMG_4647

Here's a better view that shows you there are several 3D elements to this card.  We'll make this card and one other.  Check back for class date on this one.

Below is a fun 6x6 star album made using a new BoBunny collection of papers and embellishments.

We call this one "Summer Memories" because it's perfect for just that!

...and this is why they call it a star album.  This class is scheduled for July 14th at 6:30pm.  Class fee: $15  Call 541.476.9300 to sign up!

Monday, Monday

So tough getting out of bed this morning!!  First of all, mornings are icky for me, I just don't do them well; top it off with a Relay for Life yard sale Saturday that left me sunburnt and tired, and a softball game that left me sore.  I just wanted to curl up on the sofa with my Sony Reader and veg, then I felt guilty and here I am!!

I have completed the first round of photos from our new Design Team, and they are posted in the Gallery.  You should check 'em out, they have done a great job!

This week's happenings include: Simply Cards Tuesday at 6pm, and Distressed Cards & Techniques Friday at 6:30.

Relay for Life Saturday, June 13th @10am, North Valley High School track.  We'll have our tent set up, stop by and see us!!

Another Hometown Girl!

Last, but certainly not least, this is Alisa Logue!  Alisa is another KPS Design Team alum and a regular fixture at the clubhouse.  She's also earned an endearing nickname from my mom: L'il Bit.  Anyway, getting to know, Alisa Logue:

Alisa Use

How long have you been scrapbooking?  I have been scrapbooking for 24 years.  My grandmother got me started when I was 10 by giving me a magnetic-page album already started with photos, newspaper clippings, poems and letters I had written, and my drawings.  Of course scrapbooking has come a long way since then.  I have been traditional scrapbooking since 1999 when my son was born.

Why did you get started?  I love preserving my memories.  I feel that scrapbooking is the perfect way to document a life well lived for future generations to appreciate and experience a sense of connectedness.  But, if I'm honest... I scrapbook just as much for the artistic outlet as for provinance.

What is your favorite scrapbooking tool?  I love my Cricut machine which was a generous blessing gifted to me.  And I am also addicted to border punches... oh, and my sewing machine.  My pages are not complete until I have run them through my Singer.

What is your beverage of choice while scrapbooking?  I usually work on projects late at night so my scrapbooking beverage of choice is Peet's coffee with Creme Brulee creamer.  Or should I say Creme Brulee creamer with a splash of coffee!  : )  Keeps the mojo flowin' on those all-nighters.

Who do you scrapbook about most?  My children are my biggest inspiration and most willing subjects to be photographed (of course bribes don't hurt either).  My husband is majorly camera shy... no not shy... he acts like a goofball in front of the camera or flat out refuses.  So I can never capture his true self.  I'm working on him.

If you were on a reality tv show, which one would it be and why?   My husband and I actually downloaded the application for Amazing Race once.  We would totally rock that show and become millionaires.  It is so 'our thing' the travel, the adventure, the physical activities.  Just looking for someone to watch our kiddos for a month.

What is the most fun place you've ever traveled to, and why was it your fave?

That's a hard one for me to answer.  I have been blessed to have the opportunity to travel a lot through the years to 14 countries.  I love to travel.  Every travel experience I've had has enriched my life in one way or another.  I was an exchange student in high school to Belgium, Europe for one year.  My husband took me on a surprise trip to Hawaii after our 10 year anniversary.  That was incredible.  Most recently I spent three weeks in Uganda, Africa in March.  While there as part of a missions trip our team helped out with an orphanage and conducted children's festivals and a women's conference.  It was an amazing experience.  Africa has changed my perspective on life and I can't wait to tell that story in a scrapbook.

What was your favorite childhood food? PIZZA!!!!!!!!!  Extra cheese please!

What is the best concert you've ever been to?   One of my girlfriends and I go to Britt every year together.  We've seen some great concerts but my favorite has to be Jamie Cullum.  He feels his music and makes his listeners feel it too.  Such a soul thing for him.  I love that when an artist creates with their total being.

What is the craziest thing you've ever done?  Although I'm adventurous, I am not all that daring.  I guess hitch-hiking in Europe as a teen-ager might be the craziest.  Didn't feel all that crazy at the time but now that I'm a mom I think it's crazy-crazy.

Here's One From Grants Pass!

I am happy to re-introduce you to KPS Design Team member Candy Rosenberg.  Candy is one of the original DT members and a personal driving force for me and this blog.  She's always nagging me - ok, not nagging - gently reminding me to do my updates!

Getting to know:  Candy Rosenberg

How long have you been scrapbooking?  Actual scrapbooking has now been 4 years.  I have been paper crafting since I was born, my mom says that I was born with scissors in my hand.  That must have hurt!

Why did you get started?  My dear friend, Debbie was working on her sons scout scrapbooks, and I would watch what she was doing.  I did not get interested in it at first until my own son was getting ready to Eagle in the scout troop.  Let's just say the rest is history.

What is your favorite scrapbooking tool?  My honeybee scissors for sure.   A pair a scissors and some glue and I can rule the world.

Who do you scrapbook about most?  Events and everyday stuff, like gas prices.

If you were on a reality tv show, which one would it be and why?  It would most definetly be "The Apprentice", I would so whoop butt on that show.

What is your beverage of choice while scrapbooking?  I am usually too involved in what I am doing to worry about drinking anything.  But if I think about it is usually a diet Dr. Pepper.

What is the most fun place you've ever traveled to, and why was it your fave?  I traveled a lot when I was young but not much since.  I like to travel to the ocean as much as possible and look forward to hitting the CHA show in Orlando, Florida in July!

What was your favorite childhood food?  My moms goulash!  Mashed tatos, hamburger and corn all mixed together.

What is the best concert you've ever been to?  This is an interesting question considering in "my day" I attended over 200 concerts.  The one that sticks out the most was for a band I did not even listen to; not even my style.  I was dragged along and it was the best concert I had ever gone to.  It was the  Grateful Dead in 1991.  OMG, OMG, OMG, hanging out in the parking lot was more fun that going into the concert.  Especially when I was used to coming out of rock concerts beat up and bloody.  The concert was so mellow and cool.  Such an awesome experience hanging out with Dead Heads and I got to go backstage plus sit on the stack of speakers on the stage!

What is the craziest thing you've ever done?  Uhmmmm, can’t tell.  Plus I would be here all day writing as it is a very long story!

Power of Purple Day & Stuff

Hello!!  Sorry I've been delinquent in my postings for a few days, Lorelei, Katie, Diana, Mom, John and I have been busy getting stuff moved around in the store, making a more defined "Altered" area and making room for all the ordering I've been doing (yes, I have a shopping problem!!), which includes a nice collection of wood-mounted rubber stamps (because you asked!).  Anyway, I think you'll be thrilled with the slightly revised store layout, mainly because there's more product!!

POWER OF PURPLE

Saturday is "POWER OF PURPLE" day, and we never want to be left out of an event, especially when it pertains to a cause we are so passionate about!  So, on Saturday, May 30th, when you wear your PURPLE shirt in to shop at KPS, you'll get an additional 10% off your entire purchase!

OLD PUNCH CARDS

Remember, May 31st is the last day to bring in your old KPS punch cards for credit (I need the cards by May 31st to issue the credit to you by the end of June).  Remember, this excludes purchases from April 25, 2009 to the present, as we have a more extensive software program that handles it all from that point on.

MEMORIAL DAY

We will be closed on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25th), in honor of the true meaning of Memorial Day: "to honor those who died serving our Nation during war."  The National Moment of Rememberance resolution asks for all Americans, at 3 p.m. local time, "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to 'Taps."

Have a wonderful weekend - Karyn
